FREMONT, Calif., Oct. 12 /U.S. Newswire/ -- After the Moon Festival, some Chinese restaurateurs will have even more to celebrate. In just three days, winners of the 2006 Top 100 Chinese Restaurants in the USA ( ), sponsored by Chinese Restaurant News, will be announced during the All Asia Food Expo ( ) at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Many of this year's restaurants have pretty interesting stories to tell, including serving Bill Gates in the '70s, braving Hurricane Katrina, recovering, and serving sweet and sour alligator meat!
Up from 36 states in 2005, this year's winning restaurants are selected from 43,139 Chinese eateries from 44 states, including Alaska, Hawaii, and even Rhode Island! The 2006 winning class is composed of upscale eateries, dim sum, Sichuan, buffet and takeouts. In addition, Top 10 Chinese chains are recognized, as well as Top Rising Stars - new restaurants recognized for the first time.
Aiming to distinguish the best of Chinese cuisine, this annual award is of great importance not only to the winning restaurants, but also to lovers of Chinese cuisine, as it helps to promote high standards of the $17.5-billion annual sales industry.
Master Chef Martin Yan will congratulate winners at the award ceremony, Sunday, Oct. 15 (4-6 p.m.), followed by a gala dinner (7:30 - 10 p.m.) hosted by Theresa Lin Cheng (Ang Lee movie food director).
